The Nintendo DSi – We Dish Out The Truth & Explain What This Waste Of Money Really Is

26 03 2009

The Nintendo DS is a dual-screen handheld game console developed and manufactured by Nintendo.  The original model was released in 2004, but in 2006 Nintendo released The DS Lite, a slimmer and lighter version of the Nintendo DS which has brighter screens.  Now, on April 5th, 2009, the Nintendo DSi will be available.

What is the Nintendo DSi?

The Nintendo DSi is the third iteration of the Nintendo DS.  Like the Nintendo Lite, the DSi is a slimmer and lighter version of the DS, but even slimmer and lighter than the Nintendo Lite version.  The character “i” in DSi is symbolic of its two cameras representing an “eye” and also the subject “I” and its personal individuality.

What makes the Nintendo DSi different?

The Nintendo DSi’s main updated feature is its two cameras.  One faces inward (to take pictures of you) and another faces outward (to take pictures of friends, family, or the environment).  The whole point of the DSi was to create a version of the DS that would become more of an everyday use gadget and expand its market to become a little more than just a video game console.  The first two colors will be matte black and matte white.

What are the Nintendo DSi’s new features?

An SD card slot hides behind the cover on the right-side of the handheld. The SD card can be used for external storage of pictures, downloaded software and to play AAC audio. The built-in audio player feature called “Nintendo DSi Sound” serves as a voice recorder and music player of AAC audio, but does not support MP3s. This player lets users adjust pitch, playback and add filters when the aforementioned audio is playing. Audio can also be listened to while the device is closed. The audio player lets users save and modify up to eighteen ten-second sound clips from voice recordings done via DSi’s internal microphone then apply them to songs. Another built-in software is called “Nintendo DSi Camera” that lets users modify photos with several options. Live feeds from the DSi camera, photos taken from it, and pictures imported from an SD card can be manipulated. Photos taken using the DSi can also be synced to the Wii’s Photo Channel.

What is the DSi Shop?

The Nintendo DSi also comes with some brand new options and gameplay experiences.  One including the ability to connect to an online store similar to the Wii Shop Channel, called the DSi Shop.  Here, using “Nintendo Points” users will be able to download DSiWare games and applications to the internal memory or to the SD card of the user’s DSi system. The applications will either be free, or cost 200, 500, or 800+ (marked with a ‘Premium’ tag) Nintendo Points.  Currently, the DSi Web Browser is available for free download with your new console.

What are the Nintendo DSi’s Statistics & Demographics?

CPUs: The main CPU is an ARM processor clocked at 133 MHz.                  RAM: 16 MB of RAM (four times more than previous models)                              Storage: 256 MB of internal Flash memory (Also has SD card expansion slot)                                                                                                                                          Wireless: 802.11 internal wireless connectivity

The Nintendo DSi is NOT Worth It.  I know from the information you just read it sounds pretty brilliant, but trust me – it’s far from it & Here’s Why:

+++++++++++EARLY Review For: The Nintendo DSi++++++++++

The Nintendo DSi may sound like Nintendo’s next step into personalizing the video game industry, but in reality, it actually fails to take this step the way it should have.  The DSi idea had good intentions that if had gone successfully, would’ve been a nice upgrade on Nintendo’s part.  Unfortunately, this new console version just turns out to be a waste of your money.

Don’t get me wrong, the DSi does have some nice new features…but they simply aren’t good enough.  For the ridiculous price of $170.00, I want more to my bargain.  The truth is that the DSi does not come with enough necessary or highly-desired upgrades to be worth that kind of money (especially not in this economy).  – Which brings me to my next point: This thing is coming out WAYYYY too early!!! This simply is NOT the time for the DSi to be released.  The economy is down, people are losing their jobs, kids’ allowances are thus being lowered, and the money they do earn should not be wasted on the DSi if they have a perfectly good DS Lite.  In fact, I would actually RECOMMEND the DS Lite over the DSi anyday.  From looking at its reception in Japan, the DS Lite has already been declared safe from being taken off the market – and for good reason: It’s even more affordable now then ever before, and really is all you need for a pleasurable video gaming experience with the Nintendo DS.  The DSi is really just sorta like the “Floor Model” of Cars, for it’s just an upgrade that consists of features that are nice-to-haves versus must-haves.  I’ve personally been granted the opportunity to test out the Nintendo DSi and I can honestly say (as many other critics have agreed with) the DSi is a major disappointment.  Nintendo had a golden opportunity here and they blew it.  Everything about this is just WRONG – Wrong Marketing, Wrong Release Date, Wrong Price, Not-Good-Enough Look, Failed Appeal, etc.  I know it is early on, but for now trust me when I say that unless you just simply have the free cash to spend (which who really does these days?), do not purchase the Nintendo DSi over the Nintendo DS Lite – yet.  It just isn’t ready to become what Nintendo wants it to be and to become the reality of the original goal and purpose of creating this new version of the DS.  The product does NOT live up to expectations and is NOWHERE NEAR yet worth the price it is being offered at.

Trust me I’m as sad as you are when I have to say:

FORGET” The Nintendo DSi.
